This was the pinnacle so far of challenging what was possible within the preservation and rehabilitation world. The history of this house was rich– full of first-generation Black design students, secret escape fund bank accounts, and Germans named Adolf fleeing Nazi Germany and finding no love in America save for red-lined neighborhoods. The previous owner was shut in and very disconnected from community, which contributed to the deferred maintenance of the house. But with a commitment to the character-filled features like the cosy inglenook and original bathroom with historic tile and Bambi Hollywood & Co shower door, we set a neighborhood sales record and returned this home to the sense of community.
